On July 2, 2004, Petria Boutiq opened in the Greenwoods Theater on Route 44 in Norfolk, CT. Since then, the boutique and its owner, Petria May, have been the subject of several magazine and newspaper features, including two issues of Vogue magazine (12/04 and 2/05), The Hartford Courant Life section front page (3/16/05), The Litchfield County Times business section front page (7/30/04), The Litchfield County Times style section (12/23/05), The Lakeville Journal Spring Tonic supplement "centerfold" (4/21/05), The Republican American business front page (7/25/04), The Country and Abroad magazine (October 2006), The New York Post style section (6/14/07), The New York Sun Out & About column (7/11/07, 7/19/07, 7/26/07), and www.patrickmcmullan.com (several photographs).
While still practicing law, Petria was the featured "person on the street" in Time Out New York (4/5-4/12/01), a weekly entertainment magazine. After being stopped on the street in Manhattan by its fashion editor, Petria was featured in the September 2005 issue of Essence magazine. In 2005, she created and wrote a regular Style Column for The Berkshire Record, a Great Barrington weekly publication.
Petria Boutiq specializes in one-of-a-kind vintage clothing, designer clothing and accessories for women. The boutique also carries a small, whimsical selection of men's ties and tops. Petria Boutiq is owned and operated by Petria May, a self-described "recovering" lawyer who attended Yale University (Jonathan Edwards College) and Columbia Law School from which she graduated with honors.
Ms. May, who also maintains a residence in Brooklyn Heights, New York, has always had a passion for fashion, frequently traveling to vintage shows, estate sales, and Europe to gather beautiful, interesting, and timeless pieces. "In Europe, Paris was most efficient because I have lived there and I speak fluent French," she said.
Petria's current collection includes elegant coats, silk kimono found during a recent visit to Tokyo, Victorian jackets, and a selection of Pauline Trigère dresses. "I wanted the pieces to be unique, timeless, and varied. I hope that I have achieved that," said Ms. May.
Ms. May developed a following in Norfolk, CT, including best-dressed Vogue editor Alexandra Kotur, costume designers, Manhattan shop owners, clothing dealers, writers, actresses and everyday stylish ladies. In Great Barrington, she has had the pleasure of meeting food guru Ruth Reichl, Fulbright scholars, artists, fashion designers and a wide array of breathtakingly exciting people.
